Gain career development skills

The Auckland Foundation Year includes our integrated CareerAhead service, to give you a competitive advantage in your career. 

CareerAhead is a service designed to give you a head start in today's competitive graduate employment market by helping you become a confident, highly skilled and extremely employable graduate. This helps you to plan for your future and develop important employability skills. With our help you will gain the confidence you need to become a strong, successful graduate.

How CareerAhead works

CareerAhead is delivered on our university pathway programmes in our Employability Skills unit. This unit is compulsory and you must pass it in order to progress to your undergraduate degree. During the programme, you will be supported by the course coordinator, your mentor and our Tertiary Counsellor. 

What to expect

Before you arrive you will:

  • Receive information about CareerAhead and what it can do for you.

During your course you will:

  • Fill out an online skills assessment
  • Receive a report that highlights your strengths and areas for development
  • Follow a personal development plan that works towards your career goals
  • Complete CareerQuest to identify potential careers and university courses
  • Develop your skills by volunteering within Taylors College Auckland and in the local community - opportunities include a Leadership Group, Student Council and group activities
  • Take part in a workshop on New Zealand attitudes and communication
  • Prepare a CV/resume and write a personal statement

At the end of your Auckland Foundation Year you will:

  • Receive a certificate and a Career Development folder that documents your progress. This will form the basis of your ongoing career planning and preparation when you progress to your chosen university
