University preparation programmes in New Zealand

The Auckland Foundation Year prepares you to enter one of our three partner universities in New Zealand.

 We offer two different programme options - Standard and Intensive - so you can choose the right one for you, based on your academic grades and English language level. Both options offer guaranteed progression to an undergraduate degree on successful completion of the course.

 

What will I study?

On both the Standard and Intensive Programmes you will study English language and four elective subjects. You will also develop important study skills and employability skills.

You can choose four elective subjects to focus on. These four subjects will prepare you for undergraduate study in a related degree.

Course facts

Standard

Programme length: 4 terms (40/38/35 weeks depending on intake date)
Minimum age: 16
Intakes: January, July and August
English language requirement: IELTS score of 5.0 with no band less than 5.0, or approved equivalent.

Intensive

Programme length: 3 terms (31 weeks)
Minimum age: 16
Intakes: April and October
English language requirement: IELTS score of 5.5, with no band less than 5.0, or approved equivalent.

Qualification title: Foundation Studies Certificate (Level 3). This course, developed by the University of Auckland, is delivered by Study Group NZ Limited trading as Taylors College.

Progressing to university

You are guaranteed a place at the University of Auckland, AUT University and Massey University when you complete your Auckland Foundation Year and meet the university’s entry requirements. You can also apply to other universities in New Zealand, Australia or across the world. You will choose which university you wish to progress to when you successfully complete the Auckland Foundation Year.

To progress to university you need to:

  • Achieve the minimum average score requirements for your chosen degree
  • Meet the minimum overall English mark (65%)
  • Complete all compulsory subjects specified for your chosen degree
  • Meet any additional requirements set out by the university.
